Columbia Design League presents The Public Restroom: Fear, Decency, and Design

Presented by Columbia Museum of Art at Columbia Museum of Art

Harvey Molotch, professor of sociology and metropolitan studies at New York University and co-editor of the book Toilet: Public Restrooms and the Politics of Sharing, has a beef with American public bathrooms—the physical design often makes an important everyday experience exceedingly uncomfortable. Join us to learn about historical and contemporary public restroom design and how it reflects persistent cultural attitudes toward three key aspects of life: gender, class, and disability. Light refreshments, beer, and wine will be served.
