Platonov

Platonov

Presented by University of SC Department of Theatre and Dance at Longstreet Theatre

By Anton Chekhov
Directed by Steven Pearson
This first, originally untitled farce by influential playwright Anton Chekhov was never published in his lifetime.  Finding himself on a downward spiral fueled by lust and alcohol, disillusioned schoolteacher Mikhail Platonov proudly lives by the credo “speak ill of everything.”  Platonov’s cynical wit and world-weariness belie a charisma that proves irresistible to the opposite sex, leading him into a tangled – and dangerous – web of love and deceit.
