Two special events will be taking place within the gallery during the Open House.

Jewelry maker Mamie Wilkins of Cockamamie Jewelry, based in Raleigh NC, will be bringing an abundance of her beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry created from vintage and antique treasures, giving you additional shopping choices to the pieces Gallery West carries on a regular basis.

Also, Rachel Haynie, popular South Carolina Midlands freelance writer, will be doing a book signing for her book, First, You Explore, the only juvenile biography on Charles Townes. This charming book reveals how the Greenville native's early farm life and his love of nature set him on the path to a life in science that included his receipt of a Nobel Prize in Physics for his work leading to the laser.

This book has been chosen by the City of Columbia and Richland School District One as the book to be read for the "Together We Can Read" Initiative. It is also among the first chosen for publication by the USC Press for its Palmetto Young Readers Series.
