Columbia Traditional Music and Dance is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to preserve and promote traditional music and dance for the next generations, primarily through sponsoring and organizing contradances for our local community and surrounding areas.
We hold public contradances usually on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Our dances are held either in downtown Columbia, SC, at the Columbia Music Festival Association or at the Lake Murray Contra Dance Hall in Batesburg-Leesville, SC, depending on hall availability.
A lesson for newcomers is held at 7pm, and the dance is from 7:30 pm -10:30 pm. Admission is $10. All are welcome, including parents with children. No partner necessary. Dancers are encouraged to dress comfortably and to wear non-marking, soft-soled shoes. The environment is family-friendly, with no smoking and no alcohol.
Information about dance schedule, location, and talent (musicians and callers) can be found on our website at http://www.contracola.org.
