USC's African American Studies Graduate Society Inaugural Visiting Scholar: Dr. Pero Dagbovie

The African American Studies Graduate Society (AASGS) at the University of South Carolina is excited to announce our Inaugural Visting Scholar, Dr. Pero Dagbovie, a leading scholar of African American History.   Dr. Dagbovie is a professor at Michigan State University in the History Department and Associate Dean for The Graduate School.  His research interests include black intellectual history, black women’s history, the civil rights-Black Power movement, African American Studies, and contemporary black history.  He has written extensively about Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History,” and is the principal investigator for the new Carter G. Woodson Home in Washington, D.C.   Dr. Dagbovie’s latest publication What is African American History? (2015) and African American History Reconsidered (2010) are examples of his creation of scholarly discourse about the field of African American Studies.  Dr. Dagbovie’s commitment and scholarly excellence as a historian is far-reaching and relevant for both contemporary events and explorations of the past.
