The Binding of Isaac in the Three ‘Abrahamic Traditions': The Jewish-Christian-Muslim Debate

Jon Levenson, a Harvard Divinity School professor, will examine the scriptural story of “The Binding of Isaac” as it appears in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions, at the University of South Carolina’s annual Solomon Tenenbaum Lectureship in Jewish Studies on Feb. 7.
 
Levenson will explore both the strengths and the limitations of the claim that these three religious traditions constitute varieties of one “Abrahamic Religion.” His talk, “The Binding of Isaac in the Three ‘Abrahamic Traditions’: The Jewish-Christian-Muslim Debate,” will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Capstone House. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by light refreshments and a book signing.
 
The Solomon Tenenbaum Lectureship in Jewish Studies is funded by Judith and the late Melvin Solomon of Charleston and Samuel and Inez Tenenbaum of Columbia. It is one of the premiere lectureships sponsored by the university’s College of Arts and Sciences and its Jewish Studies program.
