Stormwater Studios Artist in Residence Jordan Sheridan

Meet our first summer 2020 artist in residence in the SVAD Studio at Stormwater Studios: Jordan Sheridan! 🌟 Jordan is an MFA candidate in the School of Visual Art and Design entering her last year of the studio program with a concentration in painting.

As an independent parent, every aspect of Jordan’s life involves her son. She often finds herself working with him in the studio. Watching him fearlessly approach a surface has taught her to trust her own intuitive image-making process, and this authenticity is vital to the work she creates. Her work is graphic and fierce and is typically executed on a large scale using oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, and objects found by her and her son to encourage the viewer to contemplate their own personal space.

Jordan writes, “My work embodies a dynamic understanding of my personal space within the social and political realms in which I exist. The overwhelming weight and multitude of problematic concerns we as humans are constantly confronted with evoke a need for pragmatic change. In face of the discrimination I personally encounter as a female and the knowledge of my fellow humans’ battles, I seek to remain optimistic above feeling overburdened by its crushing weight.”

While in residence from June 15 – July 15, Jordan will be working on six 8’ x 6’ canvases that document and reflect a half year of life, and the issues we’ve faced as a society.
