This production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly addresses the playwright’s given subjects of race, gender relations, colorism, family, and wealth, but moreover examines the idea of self. Sometimes someone can be their own enemy. Self-worth and self-consciousness are constructs that run rampant in this play and our society at large. This becomes even more intriguing when someone’s notion of one’s self is pitted against someone else’s concept of them.
