“Riverbanks Zoo and Garden: Forty Wild Years”, published by USC Press, captures Riverbank’s rich history through anecdotal stories and nearly two hundred brilliant photographs and illustrations.

Recognized today as one of America’s best zoos, Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens has become one of Columbia SC’s most popular tourist destinations and one of the most visited zoos in the southeastern United States.

Palmer “Satch” Krantz became Riverbank’s Executive Director in 1976, one of the longest-serving zoo directors in the US. During his career, Krantz has served twice as president of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and once as president of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, making him one of only three American zoo directors who have served as president of both organizations.

This event is presented in conjunction with the current exhibition “In and Out of the Wild: Animals in Art” through August 31.
