Physics & Astronomy Public Lecture: "Einstein, Black Holes, and Gravitational Waves"

Dr. Barry Barish is the Linde Professor of Physics and Emeritus Director of the LIGO Observatory at the California Institute of Technology as well as a leading expert on gravitational waves. He has been elected as a member to numerous prestigious scientific organizations such as the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Barish also serves as a Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2017, he was named a co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics for his leadership and contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves.

This public lecture will take place on Thursday, February 8 at the W.W. Hootie Johnson Performance Hall in the Darla Moore School of Business (Room #101) at 7:00 pm. The title of his talk will be, “Einstein, Black Holes, and Gravitational Waves.” The content will be presented at a level accessible to a broad general audience.
