Off Page - Photography : One Book, One Community

In this exhibition, presented in collaboration with One Book, One Columbia, Deckle Edge 

Literary Festival, The Jasper Project, USC Press, and One Columbia for Arts and History, three 

photographers are invited to read the book The Stone Necklace by Carla Damron, USC Press, 

2016, and respond to an assigned theme from the book. 

The Purpose: The purpose of this project is to more fully examine the narrative of the story of 

The Stone Necklace as it relates to the SC Midlands, specifically the city of Columbia, SC, and 

offer visual connection to the narrative as processed through the aesthetic of photography.

The Process: Each photographer will be asked to respond to one of the following themes within 

the narrative:  recovery from social issues such as homelessness, addiction, and abuse; support 

systems integral to that recovery; and the cityscapes in which the narrative takes place.

The Product: Three photographers will display three-to-five photographs each as part of a 

literary-to-visual arts exhibition at Tapp’s Arts Center. The exhibit will run throughout the 

month of February, in conjunction with Deckle Edge Literary Festival, and will celebrate an 

opening night reception on Thursday, February 4th, 2016.
