Marina Plays Tchaikovsky

 The South Carolina Philharmonic welcomes “diva of the piano” Marina Lomazov to the Koger Center for the Arts, Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

A major figure in the Midlands arts scene, Lomazov is founder and director of the successful, annual Southeastern Piano Festival and the Ira McKissick Koger professor of piano at USC. A Steinway artist, she’s a star performer who has sold out concerts and helped world premiere a commissioned work for the S.C. Phil.

She is also a friend of S.C. Phil Music Director Morihiko Nakahara, who welcomes her back to the stage to headline a true-to-type Masterworks concert sponsored by Dr. Gail M. Morrison.

Lomazov opens the evening with a true classic: Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. The work is so renowned many know it by just a few notes of its majestic introduction. No slouch it its own right, Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony completes the evening of bold, classical standards.
