Hold Nothing Back

In Ashleigh Burke Coleman’s photographs, the shutter’s release is a cathartic moment for a woman, a mother and a photographer. In ‘Hold Nothing Back’ Ashleigh addresses her realization that motherhood is not an idealized state, but instead one experienced thru the kinship with her children and their natural environment. In documenting this shared ecological niche, these moments – as seen in Ashleigh’s photographs – become a source of beauty, contemplation and transcendence.

Ashleigh, who hails from Columbia, SC, is the 2020 SouthArts State Fellow for Mississippi, and the 2022 Photography recipient for Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. Join PhotoSC in welcoming Ashleigh home and enjoy an evening of looking thru her lens when the doors open at 918 Studios at 918 Lady Street, Columbia, SC.
