Happy 200th birthday, Adolphe Sax: A Celebration of the Saxophone

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue – Saxophone players celebrate the 200th birthday of controversial Belgian inventor of the saxophone, Adolfe Sax (1814-1894), a most unusual and fiery individual whose instruments outlive his fame. The saxophone has undergone a huge transition from its early days, battling various stigmas and outright oppression by Nazis and Soviets. Yet it survives to be one of the more popular instruments of our time. At 7:30 a concert of University of South Carolina saxophone students and faculty will feature virtually everything the saxophone can do! A variety of groups and musical styles perform to celebrate Adolphe Sax's Birthday. A mass saxophone choir will perform at 7:10 p.m. prior to the concert in the courtyard area of the recently completed Darla Moore School of Business.
