Tapp’s Arts Center is excited to launch our new Spotlight Series through a conversation with Marco Antonini, Christopher K. Ho, and Stephen Truax focused on their book, Golden Age: Perspectives on Abstract Painting Today.

The authors will touch on a number of topics addressed within the book, including abstract painting’s critical reception today and the importance of collective identity structures in building this reception. The conversation will lead into an open discussion on artistic communities forming collectives in Columbia, SC.

Golden Age features three groundbreaking essays about abstract painting by Lane Relyea, David Greers, and Gregory Sholette, plus newly published postscripts by the authors. These critical texts are interspersed with extended interviews with artists themselves, captured by the editors in lively conversations and correspondences. Golden Age is as much an attempt to summarize existing conversations about the eternal returns of abstract painting as it is an incitement to discuss contemporary art practices (above and beyond specific styles, trends or topics), and how we can further their impact, agency and relevance.
