Gallery to Open in Five Points and Host Opening Celebration

Local visual and repurposing artist Pamela Ann Vandervelde will see a lifelong dream come to fruition when she opens a new art gallery in Five Points on Nov. 3.

Located upstairs in suites H and I of 631 Harden St., the Pamela Ann Vandervelde Gallerywill feature the work of many prominent local and regional artists working in oils, watercolor, color pencil and ceramics, including Charleston’s Steven Jordan and Kevin Rockwell and potter Gary Dexter.

Vandervelde plans for the gallery to host regular openings, showcasing the work of new and established artists. In addition to artwork, the gallery will offer antiques and furniture created from repurposed items and the gallery’s gift shop will offer an array of handmade original items, such as fashion accessories, jewelry, chocolates, greeting cards, prints and an array of specially concocted perfumes. Formal art lessons and wine and paint events will be offered with various artists as instructors.

Among the first artists to be featured in the gallery are award-winning visual artist Steven Jordan, whose work is often centered on the Low Country, and Kevin Rockwell, who specializes in mostly humorous pet- and animal-themed paintings. Master craftsman and potter Gary Dexter will also have works on display, including face jugs created in old stone kilns.

Vandervelde will host a grand opening event on Wednesday, Nov. 30, featuring door prizes, food, beverages, live music, a reading of original poetry by Cassie Premo Steele, music by California-based pianist John Vaughn. The event will include a raffle with a chance to win a piece of original artwork.

Alhtough the Opening Celebration for the gallery is scheduled for Nov. 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the gallery will open for business beginning Nov. 3, the gallery will be open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
