Matthew Kramer

Artist Statement

Matthew Kramer is a mixed media sculptor who calls Columbia, SC home. Known for making robust, imposing pieces, often out of metal, Matthew seeks to lure the audience in to play with his works. His most recent public installation is ‘Lovely Rita,’ the troll meter-maid statue on the corner of Main & Washington Streets in Columbia. He also collaborated with Chris Stuyck on the Hootie & The Blowfish Monument on Harden Street in Five Points. He often shows at anastasia & Friends. In addition to his sculpture, Matthew does commission design work, including the new One Columbia sign for their office on Taylor Street and the Audience Favorite award for the 2nd Act Film Festival hosted by Jasper Magazine. A former blacksmith apprentice, Matthew has training in fine art from Pennsylvania State University.
