My name is Art Gomez, born in California. However, I've been an eight-year resident of the south—starting in Georgia, and now South Carolina where I call home. Though Latin, my mom, an Apache with bloodlines from Arizona—always told me I was her "cheapest baby" since my birth took place at home… She called me, “the talented one,” for helping her save money! Although I toyed with drawing as a child, by high school that talent was shelved when I became a father at sixteen. In short, I never realized my potential until my Army infantry days. Before going overseas, in my barracks, I created a cartoon poster with color pencils that a Major saw, which he purchased for his daughter. Although I offered the piece for free, the officer handed me $35—and ordered me to take it! Three years ago, I finally found the time to indulge more actively in painting and guitar. I admit, I wish I have had some art schooling. In fact, I'm still exploring to find my true forte. But then again, I once heard: "Art is anything you can getaway with…" I hope that’s true! To date, I have held four art exhibits! And the best part is—I sold three paintings at my first show in Augusta, GA in 2011—the year I learned to use paints! Plus, I have donated numerous paintings for auction to worthy fundraisers that support community causes in the south. The last fundraiser event was for Columbia College, SC's gala: http://guitarmusesc.com/guitar-gala-2014/ If you have a worhty community fundraiser event coming up, let ... view more »
