  • Ashley Warthen
    Ashley Warthen
Visual Artist: Drawing Illustration; Visual Artist: Painting
The creative process is ever-evolving. Art to me is learning. The purpose for creating is not the product, but the experience, the experimentation, the play, and the epiphanies of life that emerge as I work.

    EUGENE WASHINGTON
Actor; Author / Writer; Film Maker; Playwright
I have written and produced 4 plays at the Koger Center for the Arts – my proudest having been "The Modjeska Simpkins Story" – which chronicled the life of the Civil Rights icon. I’m the author of one book, "Love has everything to do with it," which challenges men to become advocates against domestic violence. I wrote, directed and produced the documentary film, "The Hallowed Halls" which tells the great story of how 3 Midlands segregation-era institutions (Lakeview, Booker T. Washington & C.A. Johnson High Schools)produced model citizens.
  • Thomas Washington Jr.
    Thomas Washington Jr.
Author / Writer; BIPOC Artist; Visual Artist: Drawing Illustration; Visual Artist: Mixed Media; Visual Artist: Painting; Visual Artist: Print / Digital Art / Graphic Design
Perhaps the most important pursuit of an artist is the facilitation of Escapism. Perhaps each project is the equivalent of a Narnian door…or that lamppost beyond, coaxing a wanderer into another realm. Thomas Washington Jr. (thomas the younger) functions on that premise. Since his childhood, he has produced multitudinous works in this vein—from being hired (out of high school) to illustrate in a local graphic anthology, he has subsequently striven to bring stories in every medium; to breathe life into the fantastical by imbuing it with the familiar…and, of course, to find fun and fulfillment along the way. As a result, it required the birth of his children to make him care about money. (He stillstruggles with this.) –For years, he was perfectly fine living as a Bohemian: he laid his head in strange places among strangers, eventually becoming a pleasant strain of strange in the process. He thus entertains all sorts of bizarre notions—the importance of world peace, an unshakeable belief in fundamental similarities that make Humanity one big family, intense opinions on interstellar travel, and so-forth. Recently, he took the leap of emerging in his local scene. He has sat on panels, joined the instructor roster for community arts centers, partaken in various shows, (finally!) founded a website, and essentially joined the dialogue of Art’s Place In Society.

    Author / Writer
I’ve been an avid romance-novel lover since picking up my first at the age of thirteen. It’s only natural that one day I’d be writing my own. I’m a native of South Carolina and writes romances as hot as my hometown. I’ve published seven novels with Crimson Romance, now a part of Simon and Schuster, three with Harlequin Kimani with more to come, and independently published two novels. I’m a member of Romance Writers of America, Carolina Romance Writers, Cultural, Interracial and Multicultural Romance Writers, and conduct interviews with Coffee Time Romance. When I’m not working, writing, or being a wife and mom I spend a lot of time discussing television on Twitter or planning my next girls night out.
  • Sara Winsted
    Sara Winsted
Visual Artist: Mixed Media; Visual Artist: Sculpture / Pottery
Sara Winsted is an abstract painter and sculptor from the Columbia, South Carolina area. With a background in Commercial Graphics, Winsted is mostly a self-taught, multi-media artist. Even though she has been creating art in various forms throughout her life, it was not until 2010, and after joining a local Columbia art guild that she began to recognize herself as a professional artist. Internally driven and emotionally charged, Winsted’s artistic style has been described as being both “Thought Provoking  and Imaginative.”  Winsted works in a wide variety of mediums. When viewing her art for the first time one is under the belief that the works presented are the creations of several talented artists. The diverse works however are the efforts of just one. Explosive abstract paintings, contemporary mixed media, whimsical paintings and realistic sculptures are just some of the styles you will uncover when you delve into her portfolio of works. Winsted’s creative process is one that is both automatic and emotional. The majority of her works are inspired by the music she listens to. The tone, the rhythm, the melody are translated into emotions inspired by the music then captured within the pieces that she creates. Winsted currently serves as President of Columbia’s Trenholm Artists Guild (TAG) and teaches art to a local homeschool group. She also curates several exhibits throughout the area including The Gallery at The 1425 Inn and visual art curator for Southern Exposure New Music Series at USC.  She is currently working on illustrating a children’s book for a local author.
  • Frankie Wolf
    Frankie Wolf
    Visual Artist: Mixed Media
Frankie Wolf is a self-taught artist who has been practicing for over 50 years. She considers her work to be narrative and symbolic in nature, with an appreciation for abstraction and distortion. She looks for ways to capture the beauty of the strange. Her work often explores her fascination with global mythology and guising which includes influences from folk art, horned deities, petroglyphs and wild man/woman representations. She also finds interest in the gritty imperfections of life, the gaps that are often overlooked and subjects that are not normally highlighted in the mainstream. She was the featured artist at The Cellar in 1994 with Palooza People, which included a permanent mural and installation. Her solo show First Folk was held at the Koger Center for the Arts Donor Room in 1996. Between 1985 and 1998 she was invited to create numerous illustrations for local businesses and publications including a comic zine and various pieces for Columbia’s famed Rockafellas. More recently she exhibited her Tokens series at Cool Beans in 2016 and was the featured artist for USC’s Southern Exposure in 2018 with Duo Cortona. She has just been accepted into the National Art Center, Tokyo for the second year in a row at the 25th Annual Salon Blanc International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, 2021. She is also in the process of establishing a personal collection called ‘Final Howl’ which will begin debuting its first pieces in 2021.
