I am a visual artist, focusing on fine art portrait photography. Hallmarks of my work are richness and whimsy. My photographs are often mistaken at first for paintings, due to their tones and aura. I incorporate sometimes humble, sometimes fantastical themes, wardrobe and props. I am primarily a portrait (and self-portrait) artist; in my works I seek to capture a moment in time, revealing an intimate aspect of the subject. I want people to feel something familiar when they see my portraits. In my art, I portray themes of quiet strength. Warmth and richness permeate my works; so do shadows created by a strong and directional source of light.

My art represent a time and a place, though not necessarily what you are seeing. As one grows older, memories take on colors and lives all of their own, and these are mine. These are my moments. Of truth, of realizations, always showing up around dawn and dusk. In the end, the piece is what it has become, not necessarily was intended, but still holding that feeling one gets when something is over, or as finished as it will ever be. Like I said. Moments. Some end beautifully, some have no end at all. Sometimes, the mood has been created from nothing, or from some little thing that someone has discarded. Only to be repurposed into a little story. A little history. These pieces that mean so much to me. The hidden stories, the lost histories of Us. Whether using oil paint, or scrap pieces of metal and wood, each piece carries a little something, a thought, a feeling. So many things that no one but you will ever experience, and no words to adequately convey those moments of clarity, and of understanding. The beauty and heartbreak of so many lessons.

  • Alicia Leeke
    Alicia Leeke
Teacher / Instructor; Visual Artist: Fiber Art / Fine Craft; Visual Artist: Installation; Visual Artist: Mixed Media; Visual Artist: Painting; Visual Artist: Print / Digital Art / Graphic Design; Murals
Alicia Leeke, a native South Carolinian, started her artistic studies under Steven Nevitt at Columbia College. During her sophomore year she vacationed in Paris and visited the Louvre, where she fell in love with the French Impressionists. She also visited her most inspiring spot in France, Montmartre. Her travels to paint landscapes during plein-air painting sessions led her to produce a body of beautiful abstract paintings inspired by nature’s ever-changing scenery. More recently, she is inspired by photographers Susan Kae Grant of Texas and John E. Powell of Columbia, SC to produce a body of work combining conceptual art, photography and digital mixed media. Leeke compares a series of art in a body of work to that of multiple product lines in sales. This means she has a paintings produced in a series over time including: abstract textural landscapes, impressionistic landscapes, French cityscapes, digital mixed media cityscapes, vibrant abstracts and an abstract body of work based on phytoplankton. Leeke was awarded a grant by the Charleston Scientific and Cultural Education Fund to produce a traveling exhibition entitled: View from Under the Microscope: Science-based Learning Through Art. The exhibition educates the non-scientific community about the importance Phytoplankton play in our life and why we need to be good stewards of our water bodies. This body of work will be on view at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport starting June 2017. She is also grant recipient from the Joan Mitchell Foundation located in New York City. To purchase artwork please call 803-429- 5456, email info@alicialeeke.com or visit www.alicialeeke.com.

It appears that I have always pursued my creative propensities. For as long as I can remember I have always sketched on various surfaces (Some of them with and many without permission.) My earliest formal teacher (Art Instructor, Mrs. Barbara Townsend, Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School), squeezed creativity out of me sneakily. Before I realized what was going on I had volunteered my service for many school projects. Fortunately, she graded all my construction help around school as extra credits. That always kept me working and that was an important step in guiding my interest. She knew that I would not turn her down when she needed something done. It was all practice without her hands-on instructions. However, it wasn’t until my next Professor (J. Craig Greene – Art Professor: Chowan College, Murfreesboro, NC) began to get into my head that I started to really think about what was actually going on with a canvas. It was a question that did not rest well with me at first. That question is too personal to repeat but I pray that other professors are as good with their inspirational techniques with students. Great art can only begin to take shape when an artist realizes who he is. And, that was the essence of his motivation. It took me almost thirty-two years to realize that I am a lost soul saved by Christ Jesus. My energy now is focused on pleasing HIM. Now a simple piece of blank paper, a pencil/ink-pen and creating something with meaning in it is more satisfying than almost anything. Most of my work today is with the simplest media, a reminder to me that God turn anything into beauty.

Hello, I am a self taught potter/painter/photographer/sculpture/woodworker and occasional jeweler. I love making things and am always wondering how to create the images inside of my head. What started as a hobby during this pandemic has quickly taken off into a dream of mine, to become a full time artist. Since September 2020, I have started taking art very seriously and have devoted most of my time to learning the language of painting and pottery. I have even started making my own videos on YouTube, to not only document what I am learning, but to teach others what I have learned as well.

Portraitist, Live Event Painter, Illustrator. Born and raised in Minnesota and after having traveled a good chunk of the world, I’ve melted into Southern living here in Columbia (it’s hot down here!). I have been drawing and painting since childhood and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work as an artist. I am a proud member of the Trenholm Artists Guild (TAG) and the U.S. Veteran Artists Association (USVAA). I often paint in a series format, working an idea out in a dozen or more pieces. I happy jump between media: oils, watercolor, ink, and occasionally acrylics. I love to make things pretty and I’m not ashamed to say it. Connecting with people over their pets and being surrounded by celebrating families while painting live at weddings are up there in my favorite experiences. I recently wrapped up my first picture book, The Unknown Soldier, and I am looking for more illustration opportunities, so let me know what is on your mind. Always open for commissions!

Bruce was born with a strong connection to the greatest power in the universe, known as the “Imagination Force”. This grants him the ability to bring anything he writes or sketches to life using whatever traditional or digital tools are at his disposal. Not only can he breathe life into his imaginative machinations, but he can also breathe life into the ideas of anyone who comes in contact with him.  His connection to the “Imagination Force” grew as he got older and unlocked several other abilities such as Ultra Focus; which creates a pocket dimension around him that allows him to concentrate intensely on a singular goal devoid of human distractions, Milestone Might; allows him to slow downtime in order to complete projects ahead of deadlines, and Cosmic Caliber; which ensures all of his creations are of high quality. He honed his skills over the years knowing that one day he would one day be called upon to save the world from the villain Master Conformity as he and his army of Energy Reavers seek to drain the planet of its creativity, and control the Imagination Force.

  • Thomas Washington Jr.
    Thomas Washington Jr.
Author / Writer; BIPOC Artist; Visual Artist: Drawing Illustration; Visual Artist: Mixed Media; Visual Artist: Painting; Visual Artist: Print / Digital Art / Graphic Design
Perhaps the most important pursuit of an artist is the facilitation of Escapism. Perhaps each project is the equivalent of a Narnian door…or that lamppost beyond, coaxing a wanderer into another realm. Thomas Washington Jr. (thomas the younger) functions on that premise. Since his childhood, he has produced multitudinous works in this vein—from being hired (out of high school) to illustrate in a local graphic anthology, he has subsequently striven to bring stories in every medium; to breathe life into the fantastical by imbuing it with the familiar…and, of course, to find fun and fulfillment along the way. As a result, it required the birth of his children to make him care about money. (He stillstruggles with this.) –For years, he was perfectly fine living as a Bohemian: he laid his head in strange places among strangers, eventually becoming a pleasant strain of strange in the process. He thus entertains all sorts of bizarre notions—the importance of world peace, an unshakeable belief in fundamental similarities that make Humanity one big family, intense opinions on interstellar travel, and so-forth. Recently, he took the leap of emerging in his local scene. He has sat on panels, joined the instructor roster for community arts centers, partaken in various shows, (finally!) founded a website, and essentially joined the dialogue of Art’s Place In Society.
