Gong in the Vista

The sculpture consists of an 8ft by 8ft gong anchored in the ground, with a winding crank to strike the mallet to the gong. Gonging was the way Marvin symbolized a job well done, and as a way to create closure while moving forward to the next project. As former employee, longtime friend, and One Columbia board member Lee Ann Kornegay states, “When Marvin said ‘Gong!’ you knew it was time to take the idea and get started. It was his approval of either the right direction or a way to let you know the discussion was over. He was wonderful at recognizing when something fit and then taking action on it.”
