Play With Your City: Twenty Years of the Columbia Design League

Play With Your City: Twenty Years of the Columbia Design League

Presented by Columbia Museum of Art at Columbia Museum of Art

In October 1997, before a packed house in City Council chambers, the Columbia Design League was launched. Igniting a flurry of media attention, James Kunstler, CDL’s inaugural speaker and author of The Geography of Nowhere, loudly admonished Columbians to create a city worthy of their affection. Immediately, the CDL became Columbia’s catalyst for design advocacy, bringing speakers from around the country, sponsoring a national design competition, and spotlighting local designers. Since becoming a CMA affiliate group in 2001, the CDL has continued to bring diverse, dynamic programming to Columbia. Join us for CDL’s annual membership meeting and 20th anniversary. Cofounders Adrienne Montare and Tom Savory take a look back with “Play With Your City: Twenty Years of the Columbia Design League!” last presented in March at the 2017 national conference of the American Institute of Architects in Orlando. Complimentary wine and light snacks served.
