Hand Building with Clay at the Columbia Museum of Art

Presented by Columbia Museum of Art at Columbia Museum of Art

Creating with a flat slab of clay is one of the most versatile techniques, applicable to beginning through intermediate clay artists. In this workshop, use slabs to make a variety of pieces like decorative tiles, serving pieces, bowls, cups, and pitchers, and create decorative elements by adding or subtracting clay. Join us the following week to add color to the fired pieces using a wide range of methods. Taught by local artist and educator Jane Schwantes.

A nationally certified visual arts teacher, Jane Schwantes most recently worked as a visual arts teacher at Logan Elementary School, also managing their visual and performing arts program. Currently, she works as a potter making porcelain tableware.
