David Smith , of Columbia, SC, is a life long artist… “I remember going to the Columbia Library as a 5-7 yr old and copying out of the Art Books upstairs my favorite artists. Early art lessons in Columbia, fostered by a Mrs. Adams continued my passion to draw and paint. Grade school thru High school my participation in art was keen, to this day, those that know me from those years recall my interest in art and are still interested that I have continued. I attended the University of South Carolina and majored in Art Studio. Even though Modernist/ Non-Objectionable Art was taught there, I continued my devotion to Life drawing and Figurative Art. To me , portraiture is the High Water Mark in art, and it is to this I aspire. All disciplines of art are important to me, water color, Oil , acrylic and pastel/ charcoal drawing are equal… It is the decision of the artist as to how he or she pursues their particular goals and accomplishments in art, mine is in rendering the subject so that the viewer will feel involved and taken in… Frequent sketching of all manner of subjects has brought new satisfaction to my art and those that own it.. As one family said to me as I delivered a painting ,” We will keep it for a period of time and then, pass it on to our grand children.”
